Sashay Scarf

Last fall I decided to learn to knit.
I went to a fall craft/art show and saw these frilly scarves in several booths.  The prices ranged from $12-$20 dollars for a scarf.  While in Michaels, I noticed they had the skeins on sale for $4 each. Naturally, I decided to make my own. I watched this youtube video to learn to knit the sashay scarf.
It was so easy!  In fact, it was so super easy that I have now made 18 scarves.  I gave them out as Christmas gifts and then again at Valentines day for the Crafty Pay It Forward. (I have chosen 12 college students to recieve homemade items from me throughout the year).   I now just have one skein of this yarn left and can't find anymore in our local stores.  Guess I will have to learn to knit other items.  Maybe it will be hats next.  I threatened my brother that I may make him and his family matching Christmas sweaters.  Teehee!  I am sure I am nowhere near ready to make sweaters so they would definitely win the ugly Christmas sweater contests.

Girl On Fire

Today's card is a birthday card for a lovely young lady who is turning 13.  She love the Hunger Games books so I couldn't resist using Katniss, Girl on Fire, from Sassy Studio Designs
I wanted her dress to look like it was on fire, just like in the book and the movie.  I colored it in reds, oranges and yellows and then painted the entire dress with extreme glitter paint.  I added some stickles too for a little extra glitter.  I hope all the glitter is evident in the picture.
The bow and arrow are from the Sweethearts Cricut cartridge.  The bow looks a little like a scrolly letter B which is just perfect since the young lady's name who is celebrating her birthday begins with B.
I love the pattern paper for this project.  I have had it for years and never really liked it but it is perfect for this card.  The orange paper actually looks a little like fire.

Inside of card:

Carrot Cruiser

I had another snow day today so I cleaned my craft room and then messed it up again making this Easter card.  We didn't get as much snow as was predicted but more is on the way Sunday night.  Even though my son loves an occassional snow day off from school, three in a row would be too much!

Tardis Birthday Card

Yesterday, my oldest son celebrated his birthday.
He is a big Dr. Who fan so I decided to make him the Tardis for his card.
I created the basic card shape using the george Cricut cartridge and the Cricut Craft Room design software.  Once that was done, I found pictures online to use for the sign on the door and the Police Box tag on the top.  The rest of the card is just layered and inked squares and rectangles.  I did have a bit of a challenge for the light on top but I ended up using one of the 7 Dwarfs lanterns for the happily Ever After Cricut cartridge.

Happy Valentines Day!

We start a new challenge today at Aud Sentiments.  For this challenge we would like to see the sentiment on the inside of your card.
We are sponsored this time by the very talented Rick St. Dennis who generously gave each dt member an image to use from his shop.
Since I am done with all of my Valentines day projects, I figured it was a good opportunity to get another Christmas card done.  I just love this outhouse all decorated for the holidays.

I hope you join us in the challenge.  Don't forget to link up your card showing us the inside sentiment for your chance to win some of Rick's gorgeous images

Great Day Birthday Card

Today's card is a birthday card for a friend.  I used the sketch from Sketch and Stash.  I really liked how the card looks with the simple design and without lots of added embellishments so I kept it simple.    Part of the challenge at sketch and stash is to use something neglected from your stash of supplies.  I am embarrassed to say that I have had this paper for several years.  I even bought it on clearance so it is pretty old paper but I love the green and coral together.  The image is from Sassy Chery.

Valentine Candy Bars

Last month Facebook was swamped with posts about Creative Pay It Forward for 2013.  The premise was that someone would post on their blog that in 2013 they would make something homemade for the first 5 people to make a comment on their post. Those 5 people then would in turn make something as well.  I decided to give this a try but in my own way.

So here goes....Julie's Creative Pay It Forward
I decided that instead of making something for the first 5 people to respond to my post, I would choose  people who I felt could use a pick me up through out the year.  Who needs a little homemade love more than college students so I chose 10 (it is now 12 students: 5 guys and 7 girls).
These candy bars are actually the second project I have made for them.  The first was bags of snacks with some spending money for a group of 6 students who attended the March For Life in Washington DC in January.

These candy bars are Valentine treats but I sent them early since a few of the students are Catholic and lent starts before Valentines Day this year.  I was afraid one of them would give up chocolate for lent and then they would have to be tempted by a rather large candy bar for 6 weeks.

Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are always a challenge for me.  I needed two of them this week and of course, didn't have any in my stash.  It would be so much easier to have them already made becasue it is rather difficult to feel creative when you are missing someone.

Card Details:
Image and sentiment from Birds Cards
Copics:  E40, E41, G21, G40
Spellbinders lacy square die
Spellbinders butterfly die
