Happy New Year crafty friends!

It's a new year, new month and time for a new pattern paper challenge at Crafty Hazel Nut's Pattern Paper challenge.  The theme is always anything goes as long as you use pattern paper.
For my project, I made a scrapbook page to fit inside an 8x10 frame.  This is actually part of the Christmas gift we gave to my nephew and his family for Christmas.  We wanted to do more experience type gifts this year so we gave them a family membership to the Kansas City Zoo.  I can't wait to see pictures of their trips to see the animals.

Cancer Warrior Scrapbook Layout

Last year our world was turned upside down when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer.  

Since most people with colon cancer are diagnosed after age 50, Doctors recommend that people start getting colonoscopies at age 50.  Colon cancer is preventable when people do their screenings.  There are some warning signs but my husband did not have any of the warning signs or symptoms. Our oncologist told us that most of the young people who are diagnosed usually are already at stage 4 due to lack of symptoms.  There is no cure for colon cancer, only treatment.

My husband is a CANCER WARRIOR. 

We choose to be positive and consider him to be LIVING WITH CANCER.

It is now 11 months post diagnosis and he is still going strong.  Most people who meet him don't realize he is sick.  He receives chemo every other week at the cancer center and then goes home with a pump for another 48 hours of chemo.  He has had very few side effects from the chemo. He will continue with this regimen for the rest of his life. He continues to work everyday. He owns his own construction business and continues to schedule projects. In fact, he has jobs lined up for the next 2 years.  In addition to the construction business he also farms.  I don't think anything, especially cancer is going to stop him from doing the things he loves.
