Dressed Up For Halloween

I love the background shapes I have been seeing on cards lately.
Unfortunately, I just have a cuttlebug and it isn't big enough for the background dies I would like to use.
So what does a crafty girl do?
She creates her own of course.

I played around with my Martha Stewart punch around the page border paper punches for this card.
I wanted to use the punches to create the shape for the card but I didn't like the sizes that were listed on the instructions so I changed it up a little
Here's what I did:
I started with a 6x6 piece of cardstock.
I punched all 4 corners with the corner punch.
Using the matching border punch, I punched along either side of the corners just once.
Here is a picture of what I ended up with:

I then trimed off the middle sections to look like the top.
Next I cut out 4 corner pieces on some scrap pieces of matching paper
and then attached them to the middle sections as pictured below

If you don't want to cut and attach the corner pieces to the middle like I did, you can punch the middle sections first before doing the corners.  I tried but found it difficult to line up the punches so I chose the easier method for me.
After I had my background punched, I ended up with a 5x5 section in the middle which is a perfect size for embellishing.

I plan to play around with other sizes so I can match of the middles a little better.  Can't wait to see what I can do with my other Martha Stewart paper punches
