Memorial Day

Since today is Memorial Day I thought it would be a perfect time to share the layout I made of my father-in-law. This picture was taken just after he finished training. He served in the army during WWII and was stationed part of the time in California and the Phillipines. Sadly, he passed away earlier this year. We all miss him so much. Today we are all heading off to our local Memorial Day service. Both my sons will be playing in the band and their grandfather's name will be added to the list of names read during the service. I hope everyone takes some time today to remember all of our men and women who have served in the armed forces and those who are currently serving and keeping us safe.

Purple One!

There is a brand new challenge blog called Jitterbuggin Challenge. This is the very first sketch challenge.

Rules for the challenge were pretty simple. We needed to follow the sketch, use a bug from any Cricut cartridge, use the colors pink and purple and add a flower. I went with the first idea that popped in to my head.

Here is my card:

The first bug I thought of was a VW bug and couldn't resist having a little fun with the challenge. I chose pattern papers that were a little out of my comfort zone so I am hoping the colors work together.

Here is the next layout celebrating the moms in my life. This picture is of my grandmother, Mom, sister and my great-grandmother. Don't you just love the hats?

25th Wedding Anniversary

This card is for my husband's sister and her husband who will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary next week. I just love grunge flowers made by Tim Holtz so much that I had to give them a try for this project. I don't have the sizzix dies or the grunge paper so I had to made a few adjustments. The flower is made from cuts from the Home Decor Cricut cart. There is a 6 petal flower on that cart that works perfectly if cut using the shadow feature on Real Dial size. I added some stickles to the flower but am not sure that shows up very well in the picture. I added the blue ribbon since that was the color from their wedding and I thought the card needed a little more color.
Card Details:
Card base: A Child's Year Cricut Cart (card feature on the pilgrim button) cut at 6 inches
Large heart: George Cricut cart cut at 3.75 inches
Small hearts: George Cricut cart cut at 1.5 and 1.25 inches
Flower: 6 petal flower from the Home Decor cart cut using shadow feature and real dial size 2.5 inches

Just My Sketches May Reveal

It's time for another reveal at Just My Sketches Challenge blog. The challenges are always fun because the twist is to blend the sketch with a song from the list provided. For this month the sketch is pretty basic and the song choices were perfect for the pictures of my son's confirmation. My song choice is From A Distance by Bette Midler. I did end up making a two page layout since I have so many pictures from this day. I wanted to make it look like the Holy Spirit was coming down on my son so I got creative with the flames. I found a leaf on the Ashlyn's Alphabet Cricut cart that when rotated just right did look like a flame to me. I added glitter to the dove so it would stand out more and the crosses under the picture are from a sticker sheet.
Layout Details:
Dove: Beyond Birthdays Cricut cartridge cut at 4 inches
God is watching: Base camp Cricut cartridge cut at 1.25 inches
Flames from Holy Spirit: Leaf from the Ashlyn's Alphabet Cricut cart
Leaf swirl: Black Letter Cricut cart cut at 1 inche
Fluer di lis: Black Letter Cricut cart cut at 5 inches
Bible: Heritage Cricut cart cut at 3 inches
